Stakeholder Consultation Advances Climate Risk Assessment in the Putna River Basin

In the Putna River Basin, Romanian stakeholders reviewed and validated climate risk assessment results under the CARE-ROPutna project, focusing on flood risk reduction and adaptation strategies.

Within Phase 3 of the CARE-ROPutna project, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management organized the second stakeholder consultation workshop in the Putna River Basin, bringing together local authorities, emergency management representatives, water management experts, and environmental stakeholders.

The workshop provided a collaborative setting for presenting and validating the climate risk assessment developed within the project. It also facilitated in-depth discussions on realistic and locally adapted flood risk reduction measures tailored to the specific conditions of the basin.

Participants exchanged practical insights from past flood events, including the recent March 2026 flood on the Putna River, and explored a combination of structural and nature-based solutions. Key implementation challenges and opportunities for improving local preparedness and resilience were also addressed.

The event underscored the importance of participatory climate risk management, integrating scientific analysis with local knowledge. This approach supports the development of more robust and sustainable adaptation strategies for communities exposed to increasing flood risks in the basin.
