A call for evidence of local and regional climate risk assessments

CLIMAAX project is collecting information, documents and practices from all around European Union. Let's join our community and take part in building advanced knowledge and tools with your practice!

CLIMAAX consortium is issuing a call for evidence and participation of local and regional climate risk assessments to gather information and insights from experts and stakeholders from across Europe. The project is seeking evidence on principles, guidance, standards, frameworks, and reports on regional and local risks assessments, developed and applied in Europe and beyond for different purposes (including strategic and tactical risk assessment & management, cross-border risk management, single or multi-hazard assessment).

Climate change is one of the most significant and urgent challenges facing the world today. The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and other climate-related hazards pose significant risks to economies, societies, and ecosystems across the globe. It is critical to understand these risks and develop effective strategies to manage and adapt to them.

Regional and local climate risk assessments are critical for collective decision-making on how to adapt to climate risks, prioritise goals and visions, and coordinate adaptation processes across various aspects of community living. The focus is on ensuring the prosperity and resilience of communities and the safety and integrity of the environment in which they reside.

The CLIMAAX project aims to develop a customised framework and toolbox for climate risk assessment at local and regional scales, assisting communities in evaluating past experiences, addressing gaps in capacity and capability, and empowering them to take action. For this reason, CLIMAAX encourage the submission of evidence from diverse sources, such as regional or case studies, policy reports and commissioned assessments that may not be accessible through scientific bibliographic databases.

The invitation is opened to individuals, organisations, and knowledge networks to take part in the development and evaluation of the Framework for conducting climate risk assessments at the local and regional level. The participants will have the chance to:

  • take part in piloting the application of the Framework and Toolbox in specific cities regions.
  • feedback and review the evolving versions of the Framework;

All contributions, whether through evidence or active participation, will be acknowledged in the final deliverables of the project. Evidence can be provided in any language of the European Union. Submission and/or expression of interest to participate in the CLIMAAX activities must be mailed at callforevidence@climaax.
