Intense Precipitation and Urban Resilience: Data, Models, and Practical Solutions for Secure Cities

Organised by CLIMAAX consortium partner LVĢMC and the Water4All project ECCO, the conference will take place on 23 April 2026, from 10:00 to 15:00, in Riga and online. Registration closes on 20 April.

Extreme weather events and increasingly intense rainfall are placing growing pressure on urban environments and critical infrastructure, making climate adaptation and resilient city planning more urgent than ever. Against this backdrop, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC/LEGMC), which is also a partner of the CLIMAAX consortium, together with its collaborators in the international Water4All project ECCO (Enhancing Resilience in a Changing Climate through Comprehensive Urban Flood Design), is pleased to invite participants to an international conference titled “Intense Precipitation and Urban Resilience: Data, Models, and Practical Solutions for Secure Cities”.

The event will take place on 23 April 2026, from 10:00 to 15:00, and will be available both in person in Riga and online for remote participants.

The conference aims to foster a shared understanding of precipitation-related risks and to support the development of data-driven solutions for urban environments in Latvia. It will bring together leading national and international experts to present the latest advances in precipitation monitoring, urban hydrology, and flood modelling. A series of panel discussions will take place, involving researchers alongside representatives from government ministries, municipalities, the banking and insurance sectors, and emergency response services. These discussions will focus on translating scientific insights into practical solutions and coordinated action for climate resilience.

The conference will happen in Latvian, with simultaneous interpreting to English available. The full conference agenda is attached for a comprehensive overview of the topics and speakers. Interested participants are kindly invited to register for the conference by 20 April via this form.
