On 22 October, 2026, Daniel Sempere-Torres, director of the Center of Applied Research in Hydrometeorology at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and CLIMAAX’s Financial Support to Third Parties Coordinator, contributed to the Kick-Off Seminar for New Projects, organised by Mission Implementation Platform for Adaptation to Climate Change (MIP4Adapt). The event welcomed projects funded under the 2025 call to the EU Mission on Adaptation and introduced them to the Mission, its Community and the wider Mission ecosystem.
During the exchange session, Sempere-Torres shared insights from CLIMAAX’s experience supporting 67 projects across 23 European countries, helping regional and local authorities better understand their climate risks and strengthen their adaptation planning.
Drawing on three selected case studies, CIM Beira Baixa (Portugal), the Putna River Basin (Romania), and Hegyvidék (Hungary), he highlighted key lessons learned from working with regions and coordinating the CLIMAAX FSTP instrument:
- Raising awareness of local climate risks to support a better understanding of regional vulnerabilities and challenges.
- Strengthening cooperation between relevant authorities and stakeholders to develop coordinated climate adaptation action plans.
- Supporting informed risk management and adaptation planning, helping regions make better-informed decisions and prepare for future climate challenges.
These experiences demonstrate the value of empowering regions and local authorities with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to turn climate risk assessments into meaningful adaptation action. By sharing experiences and learning from one another, we can strengthen collaboration across the European adaptation community and accelerate progress towards a more climate-resilient future.
