Community of Practice | Shaping regional resilience: Climate risk management in action
Climate change is now determining the way societies interact with nature. Risk perception, prevention and management are strongly intertwined with the more frequent and extreme weather patterns, heightening exposure and vulnerability. Building long-term resilience is more than a mere technical debate; it is a matter of integrating innovative governance approaches with evidence-based, collaborative real-world solutions.
This webinar brings together voices from European projects CARMINE, Pathways2Resilience, and CLIMAAX, working with European regions at the forefront of climate risk governance. Speakers will share lessons learned, tools and pathways to turn risk assessment into concrete resilience, building governance capacity and fostering local action.
The session will draw on real cases across Central and Southeastern Europe: from Brașov in the Carpathian region of Romania, facing risks tied to urban expansion and changing mountain climate patterns, to the coastal towns of Labin and Poreč on Croatia’s Istrian peninsula, where tourism-dependent economies must adapt to sea-level rise, heat stress and shifting seasonal pressures. Practitioners will show how climate risk assessment can move beyond diagnosis into action, shaping resilience strategies rooted in local governance, stakeholder engagement and place-based knowledge.
The CARMINE’s project overarching goal is to help the metropolitan communities become more climate resilient by co-producing knowledge-based tools, strategies and plans for enhanced adaptation and mitigation actions addressing the Charter of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change by 2030.
The Pathways2Resilience project is supporting 100 regions and communities to create transformative climate resilience strategies through an ambitious learning programme. The Pathways2Resilience learning programme and resources are underpinned by a rigorous theoretical framework, the Regional Resilience Journey.
