The European Environment Agency (EEA) is looking for experts to join Thematic Expert Groups supporting the development of the second European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA-2). Expressions of interest can be submitted through the online form. The deadline for submissions is 13 November 23:59 CET.
EUCRA-2 is the European Union’s flagship assessment of climate risks and adaptation challenges. Building on the first European Climate Risk Assessment published in 2024, it will provide an updated assessment of major climate risks facing Europe, analyse adaptation options and policy readiness, and identify priorities for action to strengthen climate resilience across the EU.
The Thematic Expert Groups will bring together specialists from science, policy, practice and civil society to contribute knowledge, evidence and perspectives throughout the assessment process. Members of the Thematic Expert Groups will play a unique role as knowledge co-producers. They will help shape the questions, evidence base, interpretation of findings and priorities for action that underpin EUCRA-2, ensuring that the assessment reflects the latest scientific knowledge, policy developments and practical experience from across Europe.
Participation in a Thematic Expert Group requires a minimum time commitment of 32 hours from December 2026 to March 2028. This time is not remunerated; however per diem and travel expenses apply for attending in-person meetings. The contributions will be acknowledged in the final EUCRA-2 report package.
The EEA may select participants on the basis of the relevance of their expertise and experience to the thematic areas covered by EUCRA-2 and it will also seek to ensure a balanced and diverse perspective across the groups.
