As part of the CLIMAAX SCOPE project, the City of Košice has conducted a comprehensive climate risk assessment to strengthen resilience across its metropolitan area—covering 22 city districts and 40 surrounding municipalities.
The survey, carried out in July 2025, gathered insights from 45 local governments to identify key climate risks such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, strong winds, and forest fires. The results reveal that most areas are already affected by extreme weather events and expect their intensity to increase in the coming years.

A notable trend emerged: smaller municipalities tend to prioritise nature-based solutions, while larger urban districts focus more on technical and infrastructural measures. The findings also indicate that over half of respondents have sufficient information on adaptation (51%) and have integrated adaptation into local planning (58%). However, challenges remain—particularly limited funding, a lack of technical expertise, and insufficient coordination between the city and neighbouring municipalities.

The collected data will form the foundation for the Regional Climate Risk Assessment, guiding targeted adaptation measures, action plans, and pilot projects. The results were presented during the Cooperation Council meeting, marking an important step towards a coordinated and climate-resilient Košice region capable of effectively responding to the impacts of climate change.
