CLIMAAX Success Stories, a new video series

A newly launched video series delves into the first results of regions across Europe that are implementing the CLIMAAX framework with the support of the project's expertise.

The CLIMAAX project has recently launched a new video series focusing on the project’s Success Stories. Regional teams share their experiences and insights, reflecting on key questions such as what motivated them to join CLIMAAX, which climate challenges they are addressing, and how the project has supported their efforts through data, tools, and collaboration. The series also highlights the main outcomes achieved so far and the lessons learned that can inspire other regions facing similar risks.

Across Europe, regions participating in the CLIMAAX project are translating climate knowledge into action, capitalizing on the initiative’s support in identifying risks, strengthening data integration and tailoring adaptation approaches to local contexts. Making use of the CLIMAAX Handbook, regions are beginning to see the first results of applying the project’s methodological framework in their territories, contributing to achieving the goals of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.

The first CLIMAAX Success Story takes us to Catalonia, where Sergio Delgado Molina (Directorate-General for Civil Protection – Generalitat de Catalunya) shares how the region is strengthening its resilience to extreme events, such as heavy rainfall, and improving its climate risk management.

The Success Stories highlight how the project’s guidance empowers local actors to conduct state-of-the-art risk assessments, turning scientific knowledge into evidence-based policy development, informed by active stakeholder engagement. From risk communication to cross-sectoral collaboration, the project is fostering extensive local adaptation.

These accomplishments are made possible through the numerous exchange and co-development opportunities fostered by the project, culminating in initiatives such as the first CLIMAAX Workshop, held on 10–11 June 2025 at CosmoCaixa – Science Museum in Barcelona. The event brought together project partners, implementing institutions, and pilot site representatives.

Key speakers – such as Fredrik Sperna Weiland (Deltares, CLIMAAX Project Coordinator), Sophie Berger (European Commission, Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change), and Daniel Sempere-Torres (CRAHI-UPC, CLIMAAX Project Co-Coordinator) – emphasized the importance of strengthening local climate resilience through knowledge sharing and collaboration among the 68 participating regions.

Stay tuned and get inspired by real-life examples from CLIMAAX pilot sites and participating institutions implementing regional and local multi-risk Climate Risk Assessments using the CLIMAAX methodological framework (by Sonsoles Miguel Queralt, CRAHI-UPC).
